The term “Karna” means “ear,” and “Purana” means “filling.” This therapy is highly effective in addressing various ear-related problems, maintaining ear health, and calming the Vata dosha, which governs movement and sensory perception.

It is not only a therapeutic procedure but also a preventive measure for maintaining the overall health of the ears and balancing the mind.

Duration 20 Minutes

Karna Purana is an Ayurvedic therapy that involves the gentle administration of warm medicated oils into the ears.

Procedure of Karna Purana

  1. Preparation
  • The patient is made to sit or lie down in a comfortable position.
  • A gentle massage is performed around the ears, neck, and head with warm oil to relax the muscles and improve circulation.
  1. Selection of Medicated Oil
  • Warm medicated oil suitable for the individual’s dosha balance and condition is used. Common oils include Anu Tailam, Karna Purana Oil, Sesame Oil, or Bilva Tailam.
  1. Administration of Oil
  • A few drops of the warm oil are gently poured into one ear.
  • The ear is lightly massaged to ensure the oil spreads throughout the ear canal.
  • The patient is instructed to rest in this position for about 10–15 minutes.
  1. Repeat on the Other Ear
  • The process is repeated for the other ear after cleaning the first ear.
  1. Post-Therapy Care
  • The ears are cleaned gently, and the patient is advised to avoid exposure to cold air or loud sounds immediately after the therapy.
